SoulCollage® App Support/Help

IMPORTANT ALERT: We are in the process of updating the app, and will be releasing Version 1.3 soon. Please click on the Version 1.3 link in the menu to the right to learn about the upgrades. Also, be sure to back up your data regularly. This is especially important now, as it may be necessary to restore your data from the backup after updating to the new version.

Also, please note that the iTunes program, through which the Restore function operates, has evolved in appearance recently. The basic functionality is still the same, but we have updated the instructions to reflect the new appearance. Please click on App Backup and Restore in the menu to the right for full instructions.

SoulCollage® App User Info

Thank you and welcome to the SoulCollage® App! This app is designed to help you to electronically perform many of the functions you normally perform with your physical deck. A full description of the SoulCollage® process can be found in the book SoulCollage® Evolving by Seena B. Frost.

In this app you can:

1. Photograph or import your cards and store them electronically within the app.

2. Keep information associated with each card, including the name, date created, suit, and written notes about the card which accumulate over time.

3. Do a simple 1-card Reading.

4. Do a 4-card Reading and keep notes about each card drawn and about the Reading as a whole.

5. Review your past 4-card Readings and the associated notes.

6. View all of your cards in a slideshow.

7. Search by various criteria to find a card or group of cards.

Home Screen

The main screen you will see is the “Home Screen” which contains a menu of the various functions you can perform.

Add a Card

In order to begin using the app, you will want to begin by importing all or part of your deck into the app, using the “Add a Card” function on the Home Screen. Follow these steps:

1. On the Home Screen, tap the Add a Card Icon.

2. In the upper left corner of the next screen, tap the blank image block in the upper left corner to select the card image.

3. Select “Photograph a Card” or “Import from Gallery” Note: It is recommended to photograph the card first, using the standard Apple Camera App, then use the “Import from Gallery” function to add the card to the SoulCollage® App. When imported in this way, the card will automatically be sized and oriented correctly to fit within the designated space in the App. Cards can also be scanned then transferred via download or email to the Photo Gallery of the device, and then imported into the App using the “Import from Gallery” function.

4. Once you approve of the image, you should enter the Card Name, Date, and select the Suit from the drop-down menu. The system will set the date to today’s date, but you can change that to the date the card was actually created or to any other date you choose.

5. Select whether or not the image is Copyright free. This is useful information for the future, in case you are looking for copyright-free images to display publicly.

6. Normally, the Status of a card will be “Active”, but you may in the future wish to “Retire” the card without deleting it from your deck. When a card is Retired, it will no longer appear View Cards or do a Reading. However the card will remain in the deck and can still be seen when you View Past Readings. Please See "Useful Tips" below for more information on Retiring a card and how to Delete a card.

7. Once this information is entered to your satisfaction (it can always be edited later), click “Done” to accept the card into your deck.

Once you have a number of cards in your deck, you can begin to use them in various ways, using the menu on the Home Page as a starting point. Below is a short description of the various functions and how they work. Most are quite simple and easy to use. The 4-Card Reading function requires that you have at least 5 Cards in your deck and has some special features which are described in more detail below.

Draw One Card

The first thing you might want to do is to “Draw One Card”. This will present a single card, drawn at random, on the screen. This will present a full-screen image of the card, called the Image View, with the name, suit, and some buttons at the bottom. One button: “View Notes” will bring you to what is called the Notes View of the card. In this view, the image shrinks to a thumbnail and the data fields associated with the card appear on the screen. These will generally not all fit, but you can scroll down to see all of the data fields. At the bottom is the Notes field, where you can enter any notes you wish about the card. For example, if you have drawn this card as a 1-Card Reading, you might want to meditate on the card, ask a question or perform the “I Am One Who…” exercise and then enter your responses as notes. Every time you encounter this card, you can add more notes in the Notes field by tapping “+ Add a Note”. You can also edit any existing notes by clicking on the note in the Notes List.

View Cards

Back on the Home Screen, if you click on “View Cards”, you will have several options. You can:

1. Start a slideshow of your cards, selected randomly or in sequence.

2. View thumbnails of all your card and scroll down to see the entire deck.

3. Enter search parameters to find a particular card or group of cards and scroll down through that subset of cards.

At any time, you can click on a particular card to bring up the Image View and Notes View of the Card to see the full-screen image and to view or make notes, then return to the function in progress.

4-Card Reading

Another function available on the Home Screen is the 4-Card Reading. (Please see Seena Frost’s book SoulCollage® Evolving for full information about the 4-Card Reading). This function has been developed to make it possible to perform the Reading as it would be done with actual cards, and to keep notes both about the individual cards which appear and about the Reading as a Whole. When you click the 4-Card Reading button, you will see a screen where you can enter your Question for the Reading. After you enter your Question, click “Draw 4 Cards” and four cards are drawn at random from your deck and presented on the screen face down. Now you can tap any one of the cards and the image will be revealed. Tap the image again to go to the Notes View of the card, where you may optionally add notes to the card record.

When you have performed this process for each of the cards, click “Done with Cards” and come to a new screen where you may fill in your notes for the Reading as a Whole. When you have finished these notes, you click “Done with Reading”. At this point, a record for the reading is created, which contains:

1. A record of the four cards which were drawn

2. The date and time of the reading (created automatically by the system)

3. The Question for the Reading which was asked at the beginning

4. The Notes for the Reading as a whole.

Also, the notes which you made for each card are stored. However, these notes are added to the Notes field of the card itself, NOT in the notes for the Reading as a Whole.

View Past Reading

When you click “View Past Reading” on the Home Screen, you are presented with a screen which has a list of the 4-Card Readings you have made in the past. If you click on one, it will bring up the record of that Reading, which includes the four cards, the date, the Question and the Notes for the Reading as a Whole. You can review the Reading and add more notes or edit existing notes as desired.

Useful Tips

1. You can use the microphone to enter notes or other text. If your device has Siri, that feature is integrated into the App. Even if your device does not have Siri, we have implemented the microphone feature, which will work as long as you are connected to the Internet.

2. If you already have scanned images of your cards, you do not need to photograph them again. Probably the easiest way to get them onto the Photo Gallery of the device (if they are not already there) is to email them to yourself, then open the email on the device and Save. Once the image is in the Photo Gallery, you can open the SoulCollage® App and Import from Gallery.

3. Retire a card. If you have a card which has been around for a while and you no longer want it to appear in your deck, you can Retire it. Retired cards will not appear in any new readings or other Views, however the card will be retained for viewing when you View a Past Reading. Also, if you later change your mind, you can unRetire the card and set the Status back to Active.

4. In order to regain access to a Retired card, tap “View Cards” then “Search by Category” and select “Retired” as the search parameter. All retired cards will appear. Tap the desired card and you will see the Notes View. You may now revisit that card, and can set the status back to “Active” if you wish.

5. Deleting a card. You can delete a card, however this function is best used for a card which has only recently been added to your deck, and which has not yet appeared in a 4-Card Reading. Perhaps you were experimenting and imported an image which is not really part of your deck. In this case, first Retire the card as in step 3. Then access the retired card as in step 4. Now you will have the option of Deleting the card at the bottom of the screen.

6. Replace card image: If you would like to replace the image for a card, without losing all of your notes and reading information connected with that card, you can do so easily. Go to View Cards/View Thumbnails and tap the card you want to update. Now tap View Notes to bring up the Notes View of the card, and click Repalce Image at the top of the screen. Follow the instructions to load a new image for the card.

There are two ways to back up your card data on the app, the email backup and the iTunes backup. The email backup is very easy to use, and works best when you do not have a large number of cards in your deck.

The email backup method allows you to back up your card data, readings and notes by sending an email to yourself which contains this data as an attachment. Each time you Add a Card or complete a 4-Card Reading, you will receive a quick reminder. We recommend that you back up your data regularly, especially after adding cards, readings or notes, before exiting the app. This will enable you to recover the data in case your mobile device should be lost or damaged, or the data should become corrupted for some reason. It is also possible to use the Backup and Restore feature to transfer your data to another device, if it has the app installed.

To perform the email backup, tap the "Backup" arrow in the upper right margin of the Help/Backup screen, and you will scroll automatically to the backup link. Tap "Export App Data as Backup" and follow the instructions, and the backup email will be sent.

See the link below for information on performing the iTunes backup.

The Restore function is only needed if something goes wrong, and we hope that you will never need to use it!

Please click here for full information on backing up, restoring, and transferring your data.

This is an early release of our SoulCollage® App, and we have worked hard to work out all the bugs and kinks. However, there will certainly be some problems, and we will be issuing free updates to fix as many of these as possible, and to make improvements. Please send us your feedback so that we can work to make the App better! Thank you!
