As an artist, a loving friend, mother and grandmother, nature lover, and journeyer, I feel closest to my own Soul when creating art, teaching my grandchildren to love the earth, and sharing the gift of SoulCollage® with others.

Working as a professional in the field of human resources for many years, following a short career early on as a nurse, has taught me a lot about people. I know that we all long for validation, wholeness and love. In 1993, faced with an empty nest and a series of failed relationships, I started actively pursuing my spiritual journey--learning and growing through counseling, creativity and personal challenges of body, mind and spirit. This brought me even closer to knowing and understanding myself and others.

When I think back I realize that most of my adult life I've been on a journey to know more about my own Soul’s code—all of the aspects of my character and self that make me uniquely me. At mid-life this journey led me to discover the artist within through working with clay and mixed media. Winning some awards, and selling my work in local galleries and shops in Oregon has been affirming. But  I create because I love doing it. For me creativity is love in form.

I've always been a curious observer of people and life. Fortunately this curiosity has led me to enjoy working with others to help them discover more about their potential and who they really are. During a two year sabbatical in the early 2000’s, in my small heart business called “Down to Earth Adventures”, we journeyed into the outdoors on short and long hiking excursions to connect more deeply with nature. I continued to explore my own depth of spirit and soul through the ongoing study of the four aspects of human nature using the Native American Medicine Wheel, and through many vision quests in deserts and mountains. This exploration has brought me to an understanding of the gifts I have to offer myself and the world, which in turn brought me to SoulCollage®.

Description of SoulCollage® work

What a delight using SoulCollage® to help others deepen their life experiences by facilitating classes, wedding showers, baby showers, or in memorials as a way to remember loved ones who have passed on. Participants in my classes have ranged from age 10 to age 90; everyone seems to get something rich out of the experience. SoulCollage® is a very powerful tool for understanding our relationship to our jobs and our work, and for leadership, team building, and helping people adjust to changes, transitions and losses. Or, it can be just a fun health and wellness activity to spice up the work week. I love to share, play and facilitate the process of "Re-membering the Self through SoulCollage®.” Lao Tzu said: "One who knows others is wise. One who knows himself is enlightened." SoulCollage® is a step closer to enlightenment!

Personal work with own SoulCollage® cards

What's the attraction--the art or the soul card reading?...still don't know the answer. At first I made cards for the simple joy of creating. Then using the "I am one who..." process to understand more about how my Soul is expressing itself opened up a whole new way of thinking and feeling. At my gatherings people enjoy just looking at their cards and imagining the many aspects of the Soul that they represent. Making SoulCollage® cards is an act of loving compassion and Soul tending.  Through SoulCollage® we learn more deeply about all the shadow and positive aspects of ourselves, our relationships with others and the gifts we are here to offer our community. Or, as the First Nation Peoples refer to it, the unique medicine we bring back to the tribe. I invite you to come to one of my SoulCollage® events and find out how this Soul-tending experience can help you discover your wisdom, awaken your heart and bring you closer to knowing the medicine you bring to your tribe.

Other Notes

I believe in the power and magic of images, deep personal wisdom, and creating your life every day! Most of us long to be seen and recognized for the unique gifts we offer the world. Too often this inherent part of us gets stifled at an early age, or is put on the back burner because of our busy lives and careers. Carl Jung said something like this: Each of us has an appointment with our authentic self in mid-life; not all of us choose to keep that appointment. Would you like to keep your appointment? Creating visual imagery with SoulCollage® and other forms of art is a path toward finding your way to authenticity and wholeness. When you can awaken heart-felt creativity you take another step on the path toward happiness.  I know, because I have lived this journey and want to help others find their way.

Art as medicine with no side effects ~ Being an Art Doula

My own personal wounding has created an opportunity for healing myself and supporting others on their journey. Most of us are curious about our creative potential, but often a little tentative about taking risks. We have untapped creativity within us just waiting for an invitation, but we fear that what we create might not be good enough. And we feel the longing for more—more connection, more expression, more of an awakened heart. If we were not thinking self-limiting thoughts what would we be thinking about?  What would come to fill the place that uses up all that energy?  Creating art can create more openness, more reaching out to friends and family from an awakened heart. If you step back and look at a deeper level, art is love in form—the creation of beauty is a labor of love.  Self judgment is replaced by connection, creativity, warmth, love, compassion and excitement—and much bigger capacity to live a full life! And that’s what makes me want to do this next phase of my career of what I call an “art doula", offering simple tools to grow the seed of aliveness and authenticity within you—simple joyful ways to awaken your own creativity and find your passion and purpose. With these tools you can take your woundings and set backs and turn them into opportunities. I will share with you tools to unleash your own well being and peace of mind and to turn your fears and doubts into strength and joy.
