In my life I have been blessed with a richness of culture and experiences.  The U.S. is my third home, after Italy and India. In Italy I grew up, learned about friendship, and during my studies in Theater Anthropology I met my passion for Eastern and Indigenous practices and traditions. They led me to India where I witnessed individual and community healing take place through trance and dance, and indulged my deep love for traveling. When I moved to the US in 1987, I started exploring my own personal healing and ways to be of service to others. This led to more inner and outer journeys and to teaching: Ashtanga Yoga, workshops, SoulCollage® -  in private settings and in institutions such as JFK University where I am Adjunct Faculty. Since 1996 I have been in private practice as a psychotherapist in Watsonville, CA, where I also offer shamanic drumming sessions. Besides continuing to grow my SoulCollage deck, I paint and sculpt clay.

Description of SoulCollage® work

I use SoulCollage® individually and in group with clients as an adjunct to other clinical approaches, I also offer in-depth personal explorations and/or mentoring sessions to SoulCollage® beginners and veterans (in person, by phone or skype). Supervision consultations and Continuing Education Units are available for those who are using this method in clinical settings. The calendar for introductory workshops, group facilitation, in-depth workshops, trainings  and retreats is available on my website.  My SoulCollage® deck continues to 'take me places', inviting new explorations and themes, which I eventually turn into workshops or seminars. Some examples are the cards I started for Yogasanas (postures) and my own Bodynvocations as a personal exploration on movement; curriculums about managing chronic pain, overcoming domestic violence, and deepening our relationship with Animus and Anima. I have translated the Facilitator Manual into Italian to use in the Trainings I offer in my mother tongue, and I am translating more of Seena's materials into that language. I accept invitations to travel for facilitating a workshop, a training or a retreat, for which I can offer CEUs to MFTs and LCSWs in the state of California.

Trainer Statement

SoulCollage® is the most empowering method of self exploration and of integration of inner parts and insights I ever encountered in my personal journey and professionally. I have the privilege of witnessing its transformative and grounding gifts day after day in my work, and I receive them myself daily from reading my deck and giving voice to my cards. Making the cards is another blessing in itself because it offers such an opportunity to step out of time and and be in the rich cauldron that is play. I tell my clients and those who attend my groups that making cards is like gathering the ingredients for cooking a gourmet meal, giving them voice is doing the actual cooking, but reading them! That is when we get to eat and be nourished by our own creative work. And there is no end to this process, we can access it over and over again, it evolves with us and never stops to give back.

Mariabruna has been teaching the Four Suits since 1996, when she first met Seena Frost and embraced the method now known as SoulCollage®. She co-facilitated in-depth workshops and retreats with Seena for many years. Now she continues to spread the gifts of this method internationally. Her art, writings and teachings encourage creative expression to nurture self-knowledge, evolution, freedom and joy - knowing that any small personal step in our own growth and expansion contributes to the paradigm shift that affects us all.

Personal work with own SoulCollage® cards

This process has accelerated and deepened the integration of my psychological parts, of my life experiences, of the many colors of my emotions, of my connection with different people and cultures and of my spiritual aspirations. At personal retreats, when I surround myself with these mirrors of Life and Soul, I hear them play the complex and beautiful music of the Self. I am moved, inspired, challenged and deeply nurtured. I remember my Soul.

  • There are as many ways of "praying" as there are hearts reaching out to the Mystery.

Prayer itself is a mysterious, sacred, universal, and powerful impulse of the soul, compelled to reach for what is lovingly much larger than itself - to find comfort, express joy and gratitude, or simply converse with the divine.

    2016-02-29 07.25.26.jpg

Prayers is sometimes shaped by words, sometimes carried through silence. Some people pray through song, dance, or music. Some people pray but do not know they do. Some send prayers to a beloved God or Goddess, some release their heart longings into the void, some don't know where their prayers might go, but they pray anyway. Some read from scriptures, some write their own prayers. Some walk in nature and listen.

We gather to enter the amazing field of prayer together, not to find answers or definitions, but to experience ways of praying, and to bring awareness to the unique way/s we pray. Most of all we come together to hold each other in silence and in sharing, to meet each other through our images and through our words, to create a meditative, devotional and sacred field that will enrich us all.

It does not matter if you have a spiritual or a religious tradition or not. It does not matter if your prayer is called with a different name, perhaps meditation, or drumming, or reflection on Scriptures. If your heart feels that impulse, join us in the silence and in the sacred sharing in the tranquil and deep holding of Santa Sabina, and see what you discover, and what your SoulCollage® cards will reveal.

What I am learning about prayer...: A while ago I sat for a very long time next to the Western Wall in Old Jerusalem. I made my mind as silent as I could and I observed, received, felt and absorbed. The Wall is about prayer, more than any other location I ever visited. Pilgrims pray in whispers, but they pray with their bodies without knowing it. There were people from all over the world, Christians, Jewish, Hindus...non believers... tourists... each one in that moment of intimacy with the Wall expressed something about their way of praying through their body. The twitching of the shoulders, the tilt of the neck, the breathing, the sobs, the smiles, but most of all I was touched by the deepening of presence - more palpable by every passing minute. I was deeply moved by the diversity of people, all strangers to each other, yet united in a mysterious powerful way that created a field of sacredness in the midst of the chaos that is Temple Mount. I didn't have anything to ask or say in those hours of stillness, I prayed with my breath. I hope you will join us in this learning.
